Understanding Ethical SEO and How It Can Benefit Your Company Website

SEO is a complex subject, especially considering Google likes to keep you on your toes and change things around from time to time with their various algorithm updates. This is where we come in - as Northamptonshire SEO experts who understand SEO ethics, we make it our business to keep up to date with the games Google likes to play.

From updating our client websites to https to avoid a ‘Not Secure’ warning from Google, to ensuring our client websites are fully indexed, it’s our job to ensure that we not only understand SEO, but stay ahead.

When it comes to SEO, there’s three main aspects to consider: Architecture, Links and Content.

Architecture: This refers to the way that a website is built, and ensuring that the website has a framework that is easy for Google to read, such as a sitemap and breadcrumb trails, and that it’s set up for content to be optimised - through appropriate tagging, for example.

Links: I’ve always thought about SEO link-building like a bowling ball on a trampoline. The more links a website site, the heavier the ball on the trampoline. If a website has plenty of quality links, it will have a bigger influence on Google, compared to a smaller, newer site that’s just starting on its SEO journey. This is one of the reasons why SEO takes such a long time. It’s what we call a ‘slow burner’, as it takes time to build a site with plenty of quality backlinks.

Content: Quality, informative content that answers the user’s search query, uses appropriate and researched keywords and perhaps links to a number of interesting and related articles, will not only rank well, but it’s more likely to shared. This helps with the above link building opportunities too.

Ethical SEO

We all understand the term ‘ethics’, but how does this apply to SEO? Ethical SEO simply means understanding the guidelines set by Google and prioritising the ones that will makes the biggest impact to our clients. Gone are the days of keyword stuffing and buying backlinks to your website. Instead, websites that provide quality content and earn valuable links are rewarded with better organic search listings.

If you think about it, it makes perfect sense. Google wants searchers to trust the websites it shows. It wants to create a better user experience, and do this it needs to be confident that websites listed first are reputable and informative.
